For your GRAMMY® Consideration
"The title track 'Between Hope and Despair' stands out like a jewel, with its fairly basic arrangement and irresistible groove. This album is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year in the Dutch jazz scene so far."
"Darash lets the light and shade express his personal perspectives; his collaborators share his passion and sensitivity, delivering an album of excellent compositions, fine arrangements and some outstanding playing."
"Darash’s standing as one of the most gifted composers and performers on the international jazz circuit today."
"Undoubtedly, Avishai Darash is testifying here to what tears souls and populations apart, whereas with a good dose of respect and humanity, everything could have been resolved long ago. Needless to say, this album is “essential,” not only for each of us but for humanity as a whole."
"There are clean, intricate piano riffs, strong compositional skills and instincts"
"The constant rhythmic shading of Machado and Fathi, the piano flair of Darash and the velvety trumpet and careful to remain between the lines of Glazkov, testify to a group of flourishing invention as well as ideologically coherent."
In response to recent global events, I've decided to create a
nine-piece album that reflects my experiences amid the ongoing
turmoil and uncertainty. As narratives shift with each passing
moment and the currents of consciousness evolve, I've found a
way to express my perspective and contribute a legacy of unity and
love through the language of music. Collaborating with my favorite
musicians – Shayan Fathi, Ivan Ruiz Machado and Antonio Moreno
Glazkov – has transformed what might seem like a simple concept into
a realization with both personal and global significance.
I've titled this album "Between Hope and
Despair" to encapsulate the spectrum of these two emotions,
allowing me to delve into the very essence of creativity and explore
the origins of my ideas. Through their exceptional musicianship,
sensitivity, and maturity, my chosen collaborators have elevated
this project, emphasizing the profound connection that music can
foster in a world yearning for compassion and understanding. In
essence, it's an exploration of the human experience set to a
soundtrack that aims to resonate with a hungry world seeking
solace.
